Wes Streeting visited Ashton Playing Fields in Woodford Bridge today to check out the new all-weather pitch delivered under the new Labour Council.
The improvements have been funded by Redbridge Council and Vision, with the generous support of the London Marathon Charitable Trust. It's the first time the pitch has been improved since 1986 and will provide better ground for football, rugby and hockey. Finishing touches are now being added in time to open in January 2015. The improvements include new foundations, better drainage, new fencing and improved lighting.
Wes says: "As the Cabinet Member for responsible for sport and leisure on Redbridge Council, I'm really proud of the latest investment we've made to improving leisure facilities in Ilford North. It's the first time the pitch at Ashton has been updated since 1986, so this was long overdue. The pitch is in good condition and will enable use throughout the year. I'm looking forward to seeing it put to better use than my limited football skills when it opens to the public in 2015!"
The improvements at Ashton Playing Fields follow a series of leisure improvements planned in and around Ilford North and the rest of the borough under the new Labour Council.
