Small Business Saturday

Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary Rachel Reeves MP and Council Leader Jas Athwal joined Wes visiting local businesses to back the Small Business Saturday initiative, supporting Britain's small businesses.

Residents are being encouraged to shop locally and back small independent retailers in the run up to Christmas. Wes Streeting, Labour’s candidate for Ilford North, took Rachel and Jas to local shops on High View Parade to celebrate our local businesses. Small Business Saturday’ is a non-political, non-commercial national campaign to encourage people to support their local businesses and Wes is urging residents to shop locally during the Christmas season.

They visited shops on High View Parade, including Fairies cake shop and Sui Generis World salon on Rachel Reeves' second visit to Ilford North in recent weeks.

Cllr Wes Streeting, Deputy of the Council and Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Ilford North, said:

"Small and medium sized businesses are a really important part of our local economy and local community and we need to get behind them. Small Business Saturday is a great opportunity to celebrate local businesses and I’d really encourage residents to support local, independent retailers in the run up to Christmas. We all want to see our high streets improve and the simple message is: use them or lose them.”

Rachel Reeves MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions said:

“It was great to be back in Ilford with Wes and Jas to support Small Business Saturday. We all need to do what we can to support local businesses. I’m glad the new Labour Council has introduced 30 minutes free parking to support local high streets and we’ve made a commitment that the next Labour government will cut and then freeze business rates for small and medium sized businesses. I’ll be back before the general election to support Wes, who will be a fantastic champion for Ilford North as the next MP.”
