Severe Weather in Redbridge - Thursday 1 March 2018

Redbridge, and the whole country are in the middle of a severe winter weather front. Some areas of the country have had red weather alerts - meaning there is a risk to life.

The Council has been trying to keep on top of our essential services, such as waste collection and gritting, but the severe weather is hampering some of these efforts. Please see below for further information on these services, we will provide updates if the situation changes.

Please stay safe and restrict unnecessary travel on the roads and using public transport.

Gritting of Redbridge Streets:

Due to the heavy snow fall gritting operations are continuing with all main prescribed routes covered, operations will be ongoing until significant improvement in weather conditions.

Waste Collection:

Due to the extreme weather conditions we have reluctantly had to make the decision to suspend refuse and recycling collections today (Thursday 1st March). Collections may also be affected tomorrow (Friday 2nd March).

We will catch up as soon as the weather allows.  As you will have seen yourselves the estate roads and pavements are treacherous and it is not possible to salt these given our other priorities in keeping the road network in Redbridge moving.

School Closures:

Many Redbridge Schools have taken the decision to close today and Friday, please check regularly for updates on which schools are closed.

List of closures: https://www.redbridge.gov.uk/crime-and-public-safety/preparing-for-emergencies/extreme-weather/

Helping the Aged and Vulnerable:

Research by Age UK revealed that every month more than one million elderly people don’t get to speak to family, a friend or neighbour.

If you have an elderly or vulnerable neighbour, please check on them – have a warm cup of tea and do your bit to ensure all our residents are safe and warm during this bad weather.

If you see someone on our streets sleeping rough during this cold snap that needs assistance, please report it to Street Link on 0300 500 0914 or www.streetlink.org.uk

Finally, please stay warm and safe during the weather, and keep an eye on weather reports and warnings via the BBC website - https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/0/2646277
