Selective Licensing Scheme Approved - Delivering on our Manifesto Commitment

Last Thursday we were successful in delivering on one of our key manifesto pledges in obtaining an extended Selective Landlord Licensing Scheme for the borough.

Prior to the election we had successfully trialled the scheme in two wards (Valentines and Clementswood) and sought to extend the scheme which was initially rejected by the Government, but on our second attempt last week we were successful.

What this means practically is, that all privately rented properties in 57% of our borough, in addition to the 16.5% of the borough already covered by selective licensing will need to be registered with the Council.

It is hoped that this will have ‘flow-on good news’ by helping us to create a cleaner borough, allow us to rid the transient nature of some private accommodation and reduce antisocial behaviour.
