Earlier this week the youth wing of the Redbridge Labour Party welcomed proposals by the Party of European Socialists ( PES) to tackle the crisis of youth unemployment in Europe.
The proposals include the introduction of a Europe-wide youth guarantee, ensuring that every young person in Europe is offered a job, further education or work-focused training at the latest four months after leaving education or becoming unemployed.

On the decisive day for the Tories “granny tax”, Labour candidate for Mayor Ken Livingstone met pensioners across the capital to discuss his manifesto for valuing older Londoners. Ken wrote to every London MP yesterday morning urging them to vote against the 'granny tax' in the House of Commons tonight (Letter attached).

It is now almost a year since the Care Quality Commission launched a full investigation into Queens and King George Hospitals. That first report found what many of us had been saying for a long time, that Queens could not cope, the standard of care was not up to scratch and maternity services at Queens in particular were poor. Since that time there are signs of improvements, but I am still receiving too many complaints of poor care, and of poor food.

The Health Service Journal reports that Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust (BHRUT) has set a London record for ambulance "black breaches" for the week ending Friday 2 March. A black breach is where patients wait more than an hour in an ambulance because they could not be admitted to either Queens or King George Hospitals.

The campaign for London Mayor came to redbridge with a bang last Thursday. Eddie Izzard was a big hit as he campaigned for Ken Livingstone and Mandy Richards (Labour GLA candidate for Havering and Redbridge).
Ken's pledges to cut fares this year and reinstate the 1700 police officers cut by Tory Mayor Boris Johnson were were popular with Redbridge residents. Eddie arrived at Ilford station and immediately made an impact with his passionate explanation of 'Ken's Fare Deal' which would cut fares by 7% in 2012 and freeze them completely in 2013.
