Rabbi Surfrin and Rabbi Hyman led the audience in Prayer and the Combined Choirs of South West Essex, Settlement Reform Synagogue and Ilford United Synagogue performed Oseh Shalom.
Cllr Jas Athwal commented, “I was honoured to speak at the Redbridge Holocaust Memorial ceremony. Today we took the time to remember those we have lost and those who survived and to reflect upon the horror and unbearable tragedy of the Holocaust.”
“Today is our opportunity to pay homage to the dead and all those who suffered, but also to look around and make a decision about the kind of people we want to be and about the kind of society we want to live in. We each have the power to speak up and challenge antisemitism, racism, and hate speech and I believe that every time we do the world gets a little better.
As we solemnly remember the atrocities of the Holocaust, we must also dedicate ourselves to working together to protect one another and ensure such a tragedy never happens again.”
