The Leader of Redbridge Council, Cllr Jas Athwal, has been named Councillor of the Year at the annual SME4Labour Excellence Awards, alongside neighbouring Waltham Forest leader, Cllr Clare Coghill.
Cllr Jas Athwal commented, “Life is about sharing, I am proud to share this honour with my friend and colleague, Cllr Clare Coghill. She is a star.”
“I am really proud to receive this award, but it was a true team effort. Onwards and upwards, we are already looking forward to 2019 and the work is almost relentless. In the years to come, we will look back on the decisions we’ve made as a council with pride; the rough sleeping shelter, adopting the London Living Wage, building five leisure centres, that is the work of a proper team. Together we can achieve more.”
SME4Labour’s 3rd annual gala was attended by over 400 guests including the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and the Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, John McDonnell, plus numerous Labour MPs and peers alongside trade union leaders and distinguished figures from the small business community.
SME4Labour works to strengthen the relationship between the Labour movement and the small and medium sized businesses that are the backbone of our local communities and the British economy.
