Today, Liberal Democrat’s Councillor Gwyneth Deakins slammed the efforts of Redbridge Labour Councillors Jas Athwal, Wes Streeting and Lloyd Duddridge after they resolved years of issues at the notorious Charlie Brown’s Roundabout, saying their efforts were “garbage”.
Further, her colleague Councillor Ian Bond claimed it was something the Liberal Democrats had already achieved late in 2015.
Leader of the Council, Jas Athwal said “this just makes the Liberal Councillors look ‘Peanuts’ – this is something the Labour group has been working on for some time with real achievements made in the last few months of hard work.”
Councillor Athwal met with the then, Commissioner for Transport for London, Sir Peter Hendy, in September 2014 to discuss the problems at Charlie Brown’s Roundabout; and following that meeting financial signoff for further development plans occurred in February 2015.
“This completely rebuts the claims by the Liberal Democrat Councillors that their hard work secured this in late 2015” said Councillor Athwal.
“It shows that they are again playing politics with residents instead of delivering real outcomes like Labour continue to do” he went on to say.
The new Labour Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan has taken a keen interest in Redbridge since his election, making his first official visit with the new Deputy Mayor for Transport, Val Shawcross, only last month.
This shows he and Labour really care about the people of Redbridge and delivering outcomes that matter for residents in our borough.
